Are you looking for a killer lunch recipe? Then you absolutely have to try this combination! Fried brie with homemade hot honey strawberry jam, fresh basil and a crispy croissant. The perfect balance between savory, sweet and spicy in one bite.

This croissant isn’t just any sandwich. The warm, creamy brie contrasts beautifully with the fresh sweetness of the strawberry jam, while the hot honey provides that perfect spicy kick that every hot sauce lover can appreciate.

Ingredients (serves 2)

For this recipe, gather the following ingredients:
– 2 fresh croissants (preferably from the bakery)
– 200 grams fresh brie cheese
– 400 grams fresh strawberries
– 100 grams Heatsupply Hot Honey
– Good splash of apple cider vinegar
– Flour
– 3 eggs
– Breadcrumbs
– Fresh basil leaves
– Neutral oil for frying
– Pinch of salt to taste

Making the perfect spicy strawberry jam

Start by making the jam, as this needs time to cool down and thicken. Put a splash of apple cider vinegar in a saucepan and heat on medium heat. Add the fresh strawberries along with the Hot Honey from Heatsupply.

Let the mixture gently simmer while stirring regularly. The strawberries will start to break down and form a beautiful jam-like texture. Taste along the way and add a bit more apple cider vinegar if needed for extra flavor balance.

Frying brie like a pro

While your jam is cooling, it’s time for the brie. Heat neutral oil in a pan to about 180°C. You can test this by throwing in a small piece of bread – if it immediately starts sizzling and browning, the temperature is perfect.

Cut the brie into thick slices of about 1 centimeter. Beat the three eggs and put in a bowl. Put the flour in a separate bowl and the breadcrumbs in another separate bowl. Then coat the brie in flour, then in the beaten egg, and finally in the breadcrumbs. Carefully place them in the hot oil and fry until golden brown on both sides. This usually takes 1-2 minutes per side. The outside becomes crispy while the inside stays deliciously creamy.

Assembling your croissant

Carefully cut your croissants in half. You can optionally warm them up in the oven or toaster. This provides extra crispiness and warmth that perfectly contrasts with the cold hot honey jam.

Start with the brie. Place this on the croissant and then add a few generous spoonfuls of your homemade Hot Honey strawberry jam. Finely chop the basil and garnish the strawberry jam with it for a fresh touch and extra color.

Want the best results?

Then timing is key in this recipe. Make the hot honey jam beforehand so it can cool properly and thicken. Only fry the brie at the last moment, as it tastes best when still warm.
Feel free to experiment with different types of brie. An aged, ripe brie gives a more intense flavor, while young brie is milder and creamier. For extra heat, you can also drizzle some extra Hot Honey over the brie before closing the croissant.
