Mama Yu’s Black Bean Chilli Oil

Mama Yu’s Black Bean Chilli Oil is made with fermented black beans, which makes it a real umami bomb. Ginger adds a lovely fresh touch, while a mix of onion, shallot and garlic provide savoury depth. All in all, a really beautiful chilli oil from Mama Yu that’s well balanced and super versatile. Especially in rice and noodle dishes, with tofu, pork belly and steamed fish dishes, this is a fantastic addition.

The fermented black beans completely dominate — I wanted a chilli oil, not a bean paste. The heat is almost nonexistent. Disappointing

This is one of the best black bean chilli oils I’ve ever had. The heat is perfectly balanced by the umami flavour. I’ve been using it all over my morning eggs – game changer

Opened the jar and the aroma was fantastic. Then I tasted it and it felt underwhelming. Wouldn’t buy again at this price, feels like an overpriced novelty.

I tried Mama Yu’s Black Bean Chilli Oil and it was amazing, especially with rice. The flavour is really rich and umami, with a nice balance from the ginger and garlic.

It’s not just spicy, it actually has depth, and goes really well with noodles and other dishes too.
